Introduction
Welcome back to my newsletter! I have a treat for you in this edition: a reading from my short story, “Othello—An American Tragedy”, which appears in Quill and Crow Publication’s Violent Delights & Midsummer Dreams: A Gothic Anthology of Shakespeare Retellings that came out in June. I am not a professional voice actor, so please forgive the roughness of my reading.
If you enjoyed the story thus far, and want to see what happens next (and, boy! is is exciting!!!), grab a copy of Violent Delights & Midsummer Dreams at your local Amazon.com store.
Please note that this is an anthology of nine Gothic retellings of several of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, so there are elements of romance, horror, and the supernatural throughout—which in reality, is perfectly in line with the themes we see throughout the Bard’s works!
Please forward this post to friends, and encourage them to subscribe to my Substack blog. Go ahead, don’t be shy—get the word out! Let others know about this book and my blog. Thank you—You’re the best!
Books I’m Reading
I can’t read one book at a time, which slows down this already slow reader; but I enjoy jumping from one book to the next, depending on my mood, and taking my time to enjoy each one. Right now I’m reading Blood Coven by Sabrina Voerman. It’s quite an enjoyable read and another fascinating adaptation of a well known folk tale, as well. I’ll be writing a review of this novel in a future newsletter. I’m also reading Mary: An Awakening of Terror by Nat Cassidy and Blackened Roots: An Anthology of the Undead, edited by Nicole Givens Kurtz and Tonia Ransom.
Featured Story:
As an added bonus this week, I’d like to also direct you to one of my previously-published stories from earlier this year: “Imposter Syndrome”, published in Coffin Bell: A Journal of Dark Literature. I really enjoyed writing this story about a fellow who has come to believe the people living in the house with him are not his real family, but, rather, imposters. Things get even more strange when he discovers a cassette tape with a voice from the future confirming his worst fears.
If you like this story, say something in the comments section below—enjoy!
Works in Progress
In addition to the Weird Western novel I’m writing, I’ve just completed an essay about my personal history with the Western genre and where I think it’s going. I’m hoping it will be received well. I’m also nearly finished with a short story titled “A Recipe for Dying” which I’m really excited about.

And that’s all for this week. Thank you for visiting my blog, and don’t forget to share this with others!
Have a wonderful week.
