I just wanted to post a reminder that today is the release date for Quill & Crow Publishing’s newest anthology, Violent Delights & Midsummer Dreams: A Gothic Anthology of Shakespeare Retellings, which includes my own adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tragedy of Othello, titled, “Othello—An American Tragedy.” I was excited to write this adaptation because I wanted to give the Bard’s classic a little update, so I set the action of the story on a nineteenth-century, antebellum, Texas plantation, and let my imagination go from there.
"My family has bled on this land for three generations, but it's Othello who reaps all the rewards." Iago pointed at the scythe in his wife's hand, his anger turning to tears. "Take up your blade, Emilia," he said, falling to his knees, head bowed low. "Cut me down in the name of everyone's prince, Othello!"
